The term "Mohanlal" refers to the eternal wonder that has influenced the laughter, thoughts, and cries of Malayalees for the past four decades, affecting all human emotions and highlighting the individual's willingness to act.




Malayalam actor Mohanlal, born on May 21, 1960, is celebrating his 64th birthday. Born in Ilanthur, Pathanamthitta district, Mohanlal was the second son of Vishwanathan Nair and Shanthakumari. He spent his childhood in Mudavanmum, Thiruvananthapuram, and started acting at a model school in Thiruvananthapuram. After graduating from MG College, he collaborated with Priyadarshan and M.G. Sreekumar.



Mohanlal's first movie was Thiranottam, produced by Bharat Cine Group. He played a comic character but was not released due to censor board issues. His first film was Manjil Viriyanja Phoolam (1980), directed by Faasil. Mohanlal gained attention for his villain role, Shankar, and later moved from supporting to lead roles. Most of his films were directed by Priyadarshan, with Mohanlal playing an important role in Priyadarshan's debut film, Poochkoru Mookuthi.



The golden age of Malayalam cinema from 1986 to 1995 saw the birth of numerous excellent films with excellent scripts, direction, and acting, featuring Mohanlal's acting prowess and collaborations with top directors and screenwriters.



In 1986, Balagopalan MA Mohanlal excelled in the Malayalam film scene, winning the Kerala State Government Award for Best Actor for his role in T.P. and Raja's Son, which became a massive success and made him a superstar in Malayalam cinema.



From 1996 onwards, producers and directors made films for Lal, taking advantage of Mohanlal's fame and hero status. Many of these were films that gave Lal an extraordinary lead role. Such films are Aaram Tampuran, Ustad, Narasimha, Praja and Naran. These were films that took full advantage of his status as a superstar. Then here till 2024 there will be many movies which will include successes and failures. He is now acting in his 360th film in four decades


Lal, a multilingual actor, has acted in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, and Kannada films. He has also appeared as a playback singer. The Indian government awarded him Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan in 2001 and 2019, respectively, for his contributions to Indian cinema. In 2009, he was commissioned as a Lieutenant Colonel.
